What is JAVA

Java is a technology and a programming language. Java is an object-oriented, high-level, secure, robust, platform-independent and a simple programming language. Java is a widely used programming language. Java is very famous because of its secure nature, object oriented behaviour, fast execution, performance and ability of platform independent. It is mostly used in the enterprise applications because of its security and performance.

Java was developed by Sun Microsystems (which is now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation) in 1995. James Gosling is known as The father of Java.

James Gosling and his team wanted to create a new language that would allow consumer electronic devices to communicate with each other. Work on the language began in 1991 but after some time the team focused on World Wide Web(www).

Initially Java was called Oak but its name converted into Java in 1995 because Oak was already a trademark by Oak Technologies.
